A walk in Paris
21e-fév-2007 09:20 pm
Long time since nobody posted in here, huh ?

Well, long ago, I promised un-touristic-style pictures. I had the occasion yesterday and I made a page out of it.

Pictures taken along the way during a walk between Central Paris (around the City Hall) and through the Second arrondissement.

I took pictures on the fly, which are, as I was saying, un-touristic. So I hope you will enjoy the pics and comments I added !

PS 1 : I will make a design so the page is easier to read/more enjoyable.

PS 2 : Pics 25 and 27 *don't* exist, they're not failing to load.

Enjoy !

x-posted into my journal and parisians.

Thanks for the walking tour! I'll be staying by your giant package of cookies this April, so it was nice to see a bit of that neighbourhood.

La Fontaine des Innocents is all that is left of the Cemetery of Les Innocents, when several intown cemeteries of Paris were "cleaned" for sanitary reasons, somewhere along the XVIIth century or something.
The bones were gathered in the Catacombs, which formerly were just stone mines. This fontain was against the wall surrounding one cemetery, and it was moved to that place, and completed, since one of the sides was not sculpted.

I didn't quite remember the whole story and was feeling too lazy to look for the info (silly me). I did remember, though, the fact that it was against a wall, actually the angle of Rue St Denis and Rue Berger (formerly Rue aux Fers) and that it had to (logically) be completed.

But thanks for the extra details, they're appreciated :)
